Cats Need grooming?
Does your cat get hairballs?
Does your cat trail litter from its paws around the house?
Does your cat have sharp claws?
Does your cat have dander?
Is your cat matted?
Does your cat have tear stains?
Does your cat have dirty ears?
Does your cat scratch at furniture and need some nail caps instead of declawing?
Let us do the dirty work, its our job and passion! All these problems have solutions here at The Lady and The Tramps, grooming is so important for a cat. They are very greasy animals and when they shed, that dead hair attaches to the grease causing a mat. These mats can get so tight that the cat cant move anymore and kill the skin, this results in lots of pain for your kitty or even worse. We do the groom in a stress free environment for your kitty with all the high end equipment to keep them safe during the grooming process.
Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Grooming
Don't cats groom themselves?
Cats do not groom themselves, they lick themselves and spread saliva all over their body. This saliva attaches to the dander and grease on their body and creates a matt, which can eventually form into a pelt.
My cat doesn't need grooming, it's short hair.
Short haired cats actually have more hair then a long hair cat, they still shed therefore they need grooming. The groom doesn't just consist of brushing the hair, we also clip the nails, clean the ears, clean the eyes and bathe them.
My cat doesn't need a bath, can you just brush out the matts?
If we brush out the matts, the grease and dander is still in the fur, therefore you will end up back at square one with a matted cat in no time. The degreasing bath gets rid of that dander and grease which is what causes matting.
Do you sedate them?
No we do not sedate the cats, if your cat needs to be sedates we will let you know for the next groom and refer you to a vet for the procedure. Not many cats need to be sedated for grooming.
Do you clip the nails?
Yes, we remove their form of mass destruction (by clipping the nails) before every groom. This is for the safety of the groomers and the cat.
How much does it cost?
Price depends on whether the cat is short hair, long hair, whether you want a bath and brush, lion cut, comb cut and if the fur is matted.
Do you have to bathe my cat? It hates water.
Yes we bathe every cat that comes into the salon. Water actually calms a cat and with the proper handling and techniques they will be fine in the bath. Cats don't like to be submerged in water or thrown in water but a slow easy process is actually quiet calming for them.
Why does my cat have to be brought in a kennel?
This helps the cat from jumping out of your arms. We also evaluate the cat through the front of the kennel, this gives us an idea of their temperament.
How often should I bring my cat for grooming?
We recommend every 6 weeks, this gets your cat used to the grooming process and prevents the forming of matts.
My cat uses his scratching post, so he doesn't need his nails clipped.
A cat using a scratching post actually sheathes the nails and does not shorten or file them. We still clip the nails on every cat that comes into the salon.
Whats included in the groom?
A minimum of two degreasing shampoos, and one finishing shampoo, cleaning the eyes and ears, clipping the nails, combing the matts out, and blow drying the hair.
Why can't you just brush the matts out of my cat? Does they have to be shaved?
If the matt is tiny we can comb it out in our catty shack, if the matt is tight to the skin we cannot get the comb under the matt. If we sat there and picked at the matt the cat can get very stressed and be in lots of pain, therefore shaving the matt out at this point is the most humane thing to do, and hair always grows back.
What if my cat gets too stressed?
We always watch for signs of stress, we give breaks during the groom if needed. If we have to stop the groom and reschedule we will do so for the health of your kitty.
